This week, I am cover crazy over... The Peculiars!
I saw this cover yesterday on someone’s IMM and I knew two things immediately: I wanted this book and I wanted a better look at that cover!
So, I went ahead and took care of the 2nd desire and looked really carefully at the cover. It had a lot going on with this winged lady, and the clockwork elements on the text and the giant cog at the bottom. I have been feeding into this steampunk fad like none other lately.
Basically, it’s a gorgeous cover with very cool tones that draw me in. Oh, and of course, the story line sounds excellent as well.
It’s set to come out May 1st, 2012 if anyone else is as fascinated as I am.
What do you think?
On her 18th birthday, Lena Mattacascar decides to search for her father, who disappeared into the northern wilderness of Scree when Lena was young. Scree is inhabited by Peculiars, people whose unusual characteristics make them unacceptable to modern society. Lena wonders if her father is the source of her own extraordinary characteristics and if she, too, is Peculiar. On the train she meets a young librarian, Jimson Quiggley, who is traveling to a town on the edge of Scree to work in the home and library of the inventor Mr. Beasley. The train is stopped by men being chased by the handsome young marshal Thomas Saltre. When Saltre learns who Lena's father is, he convinces her to spy on Mr. Beasley and the strange folk who disappear into his home, Zephyr House. A daring escape in an aerocopter leads Lena into the wilds of Scree to confront her deepest fears.
This cover is really unique, and for some reason reminds me of the movie Sucker Punch...
ReplyDeleteAnyways, awesome pick and thanks for the visit!

Yes! The wings! So enticing. If you are looking for an amazing steampunk book that I can already guarantee is good, check out Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare! That’s one of my favorites!

Wow, when my browser opened to this cover, I immediately went to Goodreads and added it to my to-read shelf. The cover is so fascinating and I am as fascinated as you.
