TGIF #7

Reading Blues: We all get them from time to time. What helps you overcome those reading slumps when nothing seems to grab your attention?

When I am in a reading slump, the only thing I can do is read a book that I can almost guarantee I will love. I know that may seem weird, like how do I know I will love it? Basically, I have a list of several books that are incredibly popular and that I feel confident I would like. Whenever I am in a reading slump, I pick out one of those books and just spend a day reading it. Almost always, it’s fantastic and fixes the problem, but on the rare occasion it doesn’t I just take a day away from reading to do something else and then try again. Kind of weird that I fix reading slumps with more reading, but whatever works, right?

Musical Stories: If you could read a book about any song, which song would you love to see written down in story form?

As soon as I read the question, my first thought was Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. It’s a pretty popular song from 1999 and I am pretty sure that if you don’t recognize it by the name if you listen to it you will know it. It’s been one of my favorite songs for a very long time and I think I like it so much because every time I hear it, I always picture a story. It’s definitely romantic in nature, but it also has feelings that make me feel like it could work as something YA too.
Here’s just a taste of the lyrics:

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's meant to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

Do you use Twitter or Facebook to promote your blog? How has it benefited your book blogging experience? If not, how do you promote your blog? Share your twitter handle and/or Facebook link!

I have both Twitter and Facebook to promote my blog. Twitter has been much more beneficial to my blogging experience simply because it’s much more interactive than Facebook pages are. I also have several followers on Twitter where as I only have one lonely friend on my facebook page. But, on the opposite side of that statement, I generally update my twitter daily and only update my facebook page when I post a review. I simply find Twitter easier to use and more people connect that way.

Promote An Author: Is there a particular author you wish got more recognition? Pick one author & tell us why we should read their work.

Cassandra Clare!
I feel like she is a fairly popular YA author, but she is my favorite and if you haven’t read her books (The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices) then you should stop reading this post right now and go do it!

Not only is she a fabulous author, but she is also really great to her fans. She is always making time to answer questions, release teasers, and she even looks at and reposts fan art!

Book Moments: What has been your favorite moment (scene) in a book that you've read so far in 2012? Please be kind & not include spoilers.

Born Wicked - Jessica Spotswood
My favorite scene is when Finn and Cate are both in the closet hiding. Energy is running high and then they kiss! However, this is not just any sort of kiss, this kiss makes Cate create raining feathers around them. It’s so cute! Definitely my favorite scene so far.

In fact, I don’t really need to describe it; it is actually featured in the trailer for Born Wicked, THATS how awesome this scene is!

TGIF! is a weekly meme hosted by Ginger from GReads! where you can recap the weeks posts and respond to a question.

Required Reading: Which book from your school days do you remember reading & enjoying? Is there a book published now that you'd like to see in today's curriculum for kids?
There are two books in particular that I remember reading in school that I also enjoyed immensely. Both of the books are from Elementary School, oddly. After that required reading wasn’t so fun anymore!

The first book I enjoyed in school was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I always remember that my 3rd grade teacher read it to us; that was before the movies had come out and my teacher pronounced Hermione as “Her-mee-one.” It did lead me to becoming a devoted fan to the series!

My other favorite book I was ever introduced to through school is The Giver by Lois Lowry. I thought it was such a good book that I went out and read the two other books in the series right afterward and they are still some of my favorite books to this day. Oddly enough, I cannot remember the grade or the teacher that I had to read this for.

As for what I think should be required reading today in schools, I cannot give a specific book because I do NOT like or support required reading. I think that every person likes different kinds of books and will enjoy some books, and dislike others. By forcing a child or even a teen to read something they don’t have an interest in is just pushing them away from reading altogether. I think that children in schools should always have the option to pick their reading material and never be pushed into something they don’t want to read. Okay, this is me....stepping off my soapbox now.

Book Blogger Pride: What do you take pride in when it comes to blogging?
I am brand new to the community, and while I do not know many people yet or have a firm grasp on everything that a book blogger should be doing, I am very proud for taking the initiative to start my blog. I followed tons of book blogs prior to starting mine. For several months I pondered over whether book blogging was something I wanted to do. I finally decided that it was, indeed, something I was serious about and so I took the initiative to make it happen. I know I just started, but I am really proud of myself for making it happen and putting effort into my blog every day.
